Health Communication Research Institute

Our mission is to enhance doctor/patient communication, specifically in end-of-life conversations; strengthen patient-centered healthcare; and to reduce health and healthcare disparities with a focus on chronically and terminally ill homeless individuals. In 2015, HCRI, Inc. began a new journey – to create a hospice house for the terminally ill homeless in Sacramento, CA – Joshua’s House – in memory of a young man, Joshua Lee (1980-2014), who had a vision of preventing those homeless men and women who were seriously and terminally ill from dying alone, scared and in pain on the streets or along the rivers of our community. We are using a community-based approach with an Advisory Board comprised of representatives from local hospitals; hospice programs; California State University, Sacramento; University of California, Davis, School of Medicine and School of Nursing; organizations that focus on housing for the homeless; medical clinics; as well as the homeless community.

County Theater

The Mission of County Theater, Inc. is: To exhibit art, independent and world films that offer the community an opportunity to experience a broad range of artistic and alternative expressions; To educate the community about the film and media arts through a diverse program of educational activities that seek to develop a lifelong involvement with the arts; To serve as a community and charitable resource for the arts, and to promote and effect access to the arts for all members of the community; and To preserve as a cultural resource the historic County Theater in Doylestown, PA.

Founded by Apple Distinguished Educator and Microsoft Innovative Educator Trainer Daphne Bradford, Mother of Many (M.O.M. http://www.motherofmany.com) is a grassroots nonprofit using technology and healthy eating programs to keep high school students engaged in school and gain workplace skills. Serving Los Angeles’ lowest performing inner city schools such as Locke, Crenshaw and Dorsey high schools in South Los Angeles—M.O.M. aims to “bridge the digital and STEM career divide” in order to close the achievement gap in neighborhoods where African American and Latino students have little access to technology and fresh foods.
