Maui Nui Marine Resource Council works for clean ocean water, healthy coral reefs and an abundance of native fish for the islands of Maui County. Our mission is to bring human actions into balance with ecological principles so that the health and abundance of Maui’s nearshore waters can be restored and sustained for future generations.
In 2023, MNMRC performed SCUBA reef and fish monitoring surveys at 10 new sites in South Maui. These surveys help us to understand the current state of the reef and to identify changes in its health over time. These dives also enable us to address the root causes that may be affecting local reef ecosystems and determine what actions to take to improve conditions.
Maui Nui Marine Resource Council works to ensure healthy marine ecosystems for the islands of Maui County by addressing environmental threats on land and in the ocean. As a small, local non-profit, we rely on partnerships with community members and other local organizations to identify the island's true conservation wants and needs. We believe that as we take care of our island home, it will reciprocate by providing us with a healthy environment to live in today and for future generations.
